March 30 is set aside as National Doctor Day. It was officially established in 1991.
 
This date marks the first time that general anesthesia was used in surgery. Dr. Crawford W. Long used in on March 30, 1842. Boy am I glad anesthesia is used today. Can you imagine having surgery without it?
